Virat kohli : Sets New Record as First Indian to Reach 12,000 Runs in T20 Cricket

Superstar batsman Virat Kohli, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, has become the first Indian to score 12,000 runs. Kohli reached this milestone in the opening match of the 17th IPL.

The opening match of IPL 2024 between RCB and their opponents CSK was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, March 22. It was during this match that Virat Kohli became the first Indian to reach the milestone of 12,000 runs. He achieved this milestone by taking a single off Ravindra Jadeja in the seventh over. In T20 cricket, Kohli has achieved the milestone of 12,000 runs during 377 matches and 360 innings since 2007.

Players who mark 12000 Runs

Before Kohli, only five players in the world had achieved the milestone of 12,000 runs. These players were Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, and David Warner. Gayle is the fastest player to reach this milestone, achieving 12,000 runs in just 353 matches, while Kohli had to play 377 matches to reach the same milestone.

1. Virat Kohli, who embarked on his IPL journey with RCB and remains loyal to the franchise, etched his name in history books in 2023 by becoming the inaugural cricketer to amass 7000 runs in IPL tournaments.
2. In ODIs, Virat Kohli became the fastest player to reach 13,000 runs. He needed just 267 innings to accomplish the milestone. In second place is Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 13,000 runs in 321 innings.
3. With an incredible average of 95.62, Kohli amassed 765 runs in 11 games during his incredible ODI World Cup at home. Three tons and six fifties were scored by him.
4. In terms of most hundreds scored in One-Day International cricket, Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record. At Wankhede, he achieved his 50th century in ODIs, and he currently holds the record for most tons in ODI format.
5.  India’s government awarded Kohli the Arjuna Award in 2013, which is the country’s second-highest athletic achievement.
6. The Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, was bestowed upon Kohli in 2017.
7. India’s top athletic awards, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (now known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award), was given to him in 2018.
